Faas, a grown man who is trapped under his parents' roof, dreams of reading books and becoming an artist. But in the name of parental love and homey coziness, his father and mother obstruct Faas' desire for a world greater than their own. With his imaginary friend, a gnome, Faas creates a shocking plan, to make his longings for big, wild women, shrimp-sandwiches and paintings come true. The Northern Quarter is a translation from Alex van Warmerdam's original Dutch version Het Noorder Kwartier, directed by Dutch director Erwin Maas.
