The Mercury Menifesto is a two-man, six-puppet, multimedia presentation of the untold true story of New York's famed stationary artists, The Mercury Men. Started by John Del Signore back in the winter of '98 after getting fired from his job as Santa Claus at Sak's Fifth Avenue, the silver duo mesmerizes crowds city-wide by standing preternaturally still without blinking.
The Mercury Menifesto is performed in the style of a fast-paced motivational seminar for aspiring subway performers. To make the seminar fun for the attendees, The Mercury Men have incorporated a multi-character re-enactment of the mysterious origins of the Mercury Men. Covering everything from Del Signore's Santa-ending encounter with Mayor Giuliani to his wild experiences getting punched, mooned, groped and arrested throughout the transit system, New York commuters will finally be given an up-close glimpse into life behind the unitard.
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury in A Little Night Music, David Alan Grier, James Spader, Richard Thomas, and Kerry Washington in Race, Robin Williams in Weapons of Self-Destruction, Kristen Johnston in So Help Me God! and Cate Blanchett in A Streetcar Named Desire are among this month's highlights.
