Synopsis

A festival of workshop productions featuring plays by new writers and directors, The Looking Glass Winter 2006 Writer/Director's Forum continues the company's mission of reflecting life on the stage with truth and theatricality while exploring a female vision and aesthetic. This year's winter festival features the work of six emerging female directors tackling both classic and new works. Throughout the three-week festival, a wide range of styles are presented, from a new adaptation of Moliére's The Misanthrope to a new work by Lauren D. Yee, Danielle Steel Writes Children's Novels.

S C H E D U L E:

Week 1
November 30 - December 3

Hustlers by Lisa Johnson, Directed by Emily Plumb
A young prostitute finds solace in weaving dreams for a mentally-challenged boy. Together, they create a fantasy world to escape their desolate lives.

The Slash by Nancy G. McClernan, Directed by Ain Rashida Sykes
Two Internet friends find solace in the fan fiction they are writing based on their favorite TV Sci-fi. When personal lives distract them from what really matters - the story - will their friendship survive to tell the tale?

Week 2
December 7 - 10

One Wagon, One Boathouse, One Body by Mary Flanagan, Directed by Maureen Rogalski
"A friend will help you move. A really good friend will help you move a body." - Anonymous

Doing Shakespeare by Dorianne Emmerton, Directed by Rose Ginsberg
If all the world's a stage, Benny and Mina just want to hide out in the wings for a while. But when their Shakespearean and sexual fantasies suddenly begin showing up in their apartment, hiding doesn't seem to be an option anymore.

Week 3
December 14 - 17

Danielle Steel Writes Children's Novels by Lauren D. Yee, Directed by Erin Winebark
What would happen if the legendary romance "authoress" adopted a twelve-year-old Filipino orphan boy and dabbled into children's books? The Danielle Steel Children's Series: "Kids have to learn sometime that life doesn't always go as planned."

The Misanthrope by Moliére, Adapted and Directed by Aliza Shane, new translation by Meredith Kaunitz
When popularity is all that matters, honesty isn't always the best policy. Life is hard… high school is worse.
