Synopsis

Double Helix Theatre Company presents its first family theatre event, to become an annual part of its season. The Little Prince by Antoine Saint-Exupery, adapted for the stage, will be directed by Chris Roberts and feature movement, mask and puppetry to create an event for families of all ages to enjoy together. Saint-Exupery's novella chronicles the travels of an otherworldly little prince through his conversations with a world weary pilot, who has been stranded in the desert after his airplane's engines fail. The characters that the Little Prince meets on his travels include: a talking fox who wants to be tamed, a king with no subjects, and an exquisite rose overcome by vanity. The Little Prince's adventures with these characters and his conversations with the pilot give us a play that explores loneliness, responsibility and love. Through the hilarious yet startling insights shared by the Little Prince, discovered during his wild ride through the stars, the play culminates in the shared discovery of what's most important - friendship.

The weekend matinees will be followed by theatre game workshops led by the director and the actors. The games will be appropriate for children ages 4 and up.
