Im a resident of Maine and live in a town in which we are lucky to be able to view the HD broadcasts on the big screen. David Finkles review is as dry as the astoundingly beautiful MINIMALIST desert set of this opera.
David, with all due respect, you need a vacation. Perhaps youve covered so many operas youve forgotten about the absolute joy that can be felt in the hearts and minds of opera viewers all around the world. Granted, many of us are not specialists in opera performance and perspectives. I found this performance stellar, enchanting, riveting and deeply beautiful, in every way. For anyone reading this comment, I highly recommend viewing opera on the big screen because we can see and feel EVERYTHING set before us. I left the theater feeling in love with both Fleming and Hampson, in love with the musical score, with David Chan and with HD opera. A VERY satisfying and economically friendly experience.
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury in A Little Night Music, David Alan Grier, James Spader, Richard Thomas, and Kerry Washington in Race, Robin Williams in Weapons of Self-Destruction, Kristen Johnston in So Help Me God! and Cate Blanchett in A Streetcar Named Desire are among this month's highlights.
