Synopsis
DNA tests now prove that Thomas Jefferson and his slave Sally Hemmings had five children. Their story comes to the stage in this classic Castillo musical by Fred Newman and Grammy Award-winning songwriter Annie Roboff. Sally and Tom (The American Way) premiered on the Castillo stage in December 1995, directed by Fred Newman and Gabrielle Kurlander, and was also produced in January 1999, directed by Gabrielle Kurlander. At the opening of the 1999 production, two descendents from Sally and Tom's controversial union were reunited.
"...Sally and Tom is a diamond in the off-off-Broadway rough. Roboff's music sometimes soars with lyrical beauty." -- Ward Moorehouse III, Christian Science Monitor, January 1999
