Lilies, or The Revival of a Romantic Drama Tickets and Information
Synopsis
The Deconstructive Theatre Project presents a special one-night-only staged reading of Michel Marc Bouchard's award-winning play, Lilies.
When the Bishop Bilodeau arrives at an un-named Canadian prison in 1952 to hear the last confession of a former childhood friend named Simon, he finds himself forced to witness the past reawakened as Simon's fellow inmates recreate a story of life at a small Christian school in 1912 that ends in tragedy for its star-crossed players. The Bishop and Simon are each compelled to confront their own conflicting memories in a final redeeming effort to reclaim lost lives and exact forgiveness or revenge upon one another.
Lilies was adapted into the film of the same name in 1996, and shortly thereafter achieved cult status for its beautiful imagery, complex love story, and unwavering commitment to portraying the tragic consequences of homophobia and social injustice.
