Synopsis

Theater visionary Robert Wilson's I La Galigo is a stunning production based on Indonesia's 14th century epic poem, Sureq Galigo. The story originated with the Bugis, an indigenous people from the island of South Sulawesi, who envisaged an extraordinary creation myth. Wilson honors the Bugis' cosmology and masterfully recreates the myth down to its epic sea voyages, and the reckless passion of its gods and lovers. 53 Indonesian performers weave a spell in the tradition of chanted storytelling, music, martial arts and dance.

Part of the 2005 Festival at Lincoln Center
