Synopsis

"Michael Mack's breathtaking performance casts vivid poetic light on one of life's most inexpressible and commonplace sorrows." -- Minneapolis Star-Tribune

"Transcendent art that reaches out with unblinking honesty." -- Boston Globe

"Exquisite...heartbreaking. Will really resonate with people who know that awful place where insanity and love collide." -- National Public Radio

After sellout shows in Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington DC, Michael Mack opens his disarmingly personal performance to its Times Square premiere. Mack was five years old when his mother was struck by schizophrenia, and his multi-character solo drama -- over ten years in development -- explores the blurred landscape between psychosis and religious illumination.

Beginning with her chilling disintegration, Mack chronicles his mother's odyssey through state hospitals, halfway houses, jails, and homelessness until she finds recovery through an unexpected grace. Probing faith, memory, language, and responsibility, Hearing Voices (Speaking in Tongues) confronts an inner world of overwhelming illumination -- one family's true story of madness, love, and redemption. Daniel Gidron directs.

For ages eight and up. Celebrating National Mental Health Month (May) with a final performance on Mother's Day.

NO LATE SEATING. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated due to stage configuration, so please arrive before show time.
