Synopsis

Dr. May Edward Chin by Laurence Holder, directed by Imani, starring Kim Yancey is biographical drama about this Doctor of Science. Dr Chinn was born in 1895 and died in 1980. She was the first black female intern at Harlem Hospital, and for many years the only black female physician in Harlem. She attended Columbia University Teachers' College, majoring in music; and for a period in the 1920's was a piano accompanist for singer Paul Robeson. Dr May Edward Chinn was a pioneer in early cancer detection and was invited to work at the Strang Clinic, where she stayed for almost 30 years. Laurence Holder has written a brilliant 3 character play about her exciting life. A post play discussion by Dr Lenora Fulani, Dr Vernille Lillie, and Dr Ethel Walker on February 28th after the performance
