Daniel Taubkin
Daniel Taubkin Tickets and Information
Synopsis
Daniel Taubkin's extraordinary voice is one of the treasures of his native Brazil; on the Web site "Musica Brasiliensis," writer Daniella Thompson called him "captivating." An acclaimed stage performer and songwriter in São Paulo, where he lives, he was launched in 1985 by a Brazilian master, Dori Caymmi, who showcased him in several concerts. Since then Daniel has become known for his eye-filling stage spectacles and his comparably lush albums. "Brazsil" (1998) is a soundscape of his country, in the tradition of Jobim's lavish orchestral albums of the '70s. "A Picture of Your Life," sung in fluent English, uses funk, rap, samba and jazz to address the environmental causes Daniel advocates. All About Jazz named it as one of 2002's top ten CDs. "Uma Beleza Estranha" (A Strange Beauty) is a haunting album of art songs, featuring two distinguished Brazilian pianist-composers: Arrigo Barnabé and Daniel's brother, Benjamim Taubkin. It earned Daniel a spotlight segment on AOL Music and was named a top CD of 2004-5 by the prestigious Folha de São Paulo. His Joe's Pub show is his first New York appearance in years.
