Synopsis

The Queen of Cabaret, Andrea Marcovicci, returns to the Oak Room with I'm Feeling Like A Million: A Salute to the Incomparable Hildegarde.

After extensive research into Hildegarde's life and work, Andrea emerges with an intimate and fascinating portrait of a trailblazing entertainer. Using Hildegarde's songs as a framework, she tells the story of a plucky young girl from Milwaukee who became the toast of café society, going from working as a song-plugger for Irving Berlin in New York's famous Tin Pan Alley to becoming a world-wide sensation big enough to have the King of Sweden search for her through Paris. Her best-selling recordings introduced the World War II standards "I'll Be Seeing You" and "Lili Marlene," as well as Rodgers & Hart's "There's A Small Hotel" and Cole Porter's "Wunderbar" (which he wrote for her before it ended up in his masterpiece Kiss Me, Kate).

From the iconic songs Hildegarde introduced and her signature numbers like "Darling, Je Vous Aime Beaucoup," "The Twelfth Street Rag" and "The Last Time I Saw Paris," to little known gems of her early repertoire, Andrea follows the great entertainer from the supper clubs of Paris and London in the '30s to the resurgence of New York cabaret culture in the '70s and '80s. I'm Feeling Like A Million: A Salute to the Incomparable Hildegarde, explores the quintessential nightclub chanteuse with the same heart and humor as Andrea's famous tributes to so many other golden age composers and performers.
