Synopsis

One Time Productions in association with Baruch Performing Arts Center presents An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein

An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein is a provocative, farcical, cynical, and sometimes raunchy look into human relationships and interaction through a series of vignettes created by the late great author, giving a showcase to his incredible talent and irreverent whit. The ten sketches feature a cast of unlikely and neurotic characters from a husband obsessing that his wife is a bag lady, from two ladies of the night offering a bargain, to a courtroom scene where we learn the meaning of "meat and potatoes," and finally to a blind blues man and his talking dog, leaving us with a tail of "human" nature. An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein was first produced by the Atlantic Theatre Company in 2001, shortly after Silverstein's death.

NOT FOR CHILDREN OR THE FAINT OF HEART!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Shel Silverstein is of course best known in children's literature for his poetry; however, he was also a cartoonist, composer, lyricist and folksinger. Silverstein began his career as a writer and cartoonist for an adult magazine in 1952. He had served as a member of the U. S. military forces in Japan and Korea during the 1950's. While in the military, he was a cartoonist for the military newsletter, Pacific Stars and Stripes. His hit songs included "The Unicorn Song" "A Boy Named Sue" and "The Cover of the Rollin' Stone" for Dr. Hook. He also composed music for several films including , Postcards from the Edge for which he received a nomination for an Academy Award for the song, "I'm Checkin' Out." A man of many talents, he co-wrote the screenplay for the film, Things Change (1988) with David Mamet. His first play, The Lady or the Tiger Show , was produced at the Ensemble Studio Theater's annual festival of one act plays.

FOR MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY.
