Synopsis

AN EROTIC AND SERIO-COMIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE MIND OF AMERICA'S PREMIERE SCIENTIST OF SEX

The New York Theatre Collective presents Alfred Kinsey: A Love Story by Mike Folie at the Michael Weller Theatre, 311 West 43rd Street (6th Floor). This new play is directed by Craig J. George with Scenic Design by Sarah Lambert; Costume Design by Irma Escobar; Lighting Design by Richard Tatum, Projection Design by Shaun Fillion and Sound Design by Mark Goodloe.

Alfred Kinsey: A Love Story is a highly theatrical and fictionalized biography that places Kinsey's own erotic voyage under examination; revealing the raw, hot emotions that often hide beneath his seemingly cold search for scientific knowledge. Through the wreckage of his memories and hallucinatory fragments, the play dissects the unreliability of objective truth and lays bare one man's obsessive fascination with sex and sexual orientation. This comic and erotic search for the truth through his subjects' sex lives ultimately leads him full circle to shattering discoveries about himself. Mike Folie's plays have been produced Off-Broadway, regionally around the U.S. and internationally, winning several awards. "The Adjustment" was produced Off-Broadway by Jewish Repertory and at several regional theatres. The play also enjoyed a successful tour of England starring Stefanie Powers. Other plays of Mike's that have been produced often include: "Naked By The River"; "Panama"; "Lemonade"; and "Love In The Insecurity Zone". This play was developed by Broadway and film producer George W. George. Mike is a resident playwright at New Jersey Repertory Company.

Craig J. George was a producer and director for The Hamptons Shakespeare Festival for six years, and recently brought his adaptation of Taming of the Shrew Off-Broadway to the Duke on 42nd Street, which received critical acclaim. Other productions he has directed are M4M, an all-male adaptation of Measure for Measure, Twelfth Night , Much Ado About Nothing, and Macbeth, Theaters worked at as an actor and director include: South Coast Repertory, George Street Playhouse, Penguin Repertory, Cleveland Public Theatre, the Weathervane Theater, and Guild Hall in East Hampton.

The New York Theatre Collective is a company whose primary mission is to create, produce, and present artistic works rooted in the tradition of classical drama and literature. Productions include "Taming of the Shrew: Extreme" (Off-Broadway, The Duke on 42nd Street), "Cursing Macbeth" (The Clurman), "The Master and Margarita" (staged reading) and its upcoming production of "M4M", an all-male adaptation of Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure."
