Synopsis

A night of thought provoking theatre that examines and reimagines the world after ballots have been cast -- past, present, and future! 2008 is an landmark year for progressive politics. Yet even still, history tells us that what happens after elections is just as important and telling as what is happening now. With After the Ballot, Freedom Train has called on several exciting playwrights to share work that talks about what nobody is talking about: Sharon Bridgforth and Andre Lancaster give a nod to past struggles: slavery and the civil rights movement respectively. And to the future we have Derrick McPhatter and yvonne fly etaghene onakeme . But while Aurin Squire warns of us of the dangers of Giuliani-type fascists, Harrison Rivers asks why vote at all? After The Ballot benefits Freedom Train Productions, a political theatre company that puts Black LGBT protagonists on stage. All proceeds go toward staging Fire! New Play Festival 2008.
