Synopsis

"I loved it! Comedy this daring, tasteless, weird, and disturbing hasn't been seen since television producers pulled the plug on The Kids in the Hall and The State...A Man's Best Friend is a theater piece at its core...all of the players have impeccable timing."
- Adam Klasfeld from Theatre Mania

"A Sleek, Splendid Satire Theatre...Mr. Jones has exquisite control over his material."
- Helen Shaw from The New York Sun

"Tom Lenaghen is terrific in the juicy role of Sluggo..."
- Theater Mania

"There is obvious intelligence at work here."
"Bruce DuBose steals the show, playing Warhol, Mom, and Great Swami. DuBose is funny, versatile, and altogether a natural comic star with perfect timing and knock 'em dead delivery."
"There's authentic originality packed behind every kick of the dog."

-Richard Hinojosa, NYTheatre.com

"...Mr. Jones is aiming to blow your mind..."
-Jason Zinoman, New York Times

Sluggo is a bad clown. He kicks his dog, he kicks his wife, he stabs his little brother from time to time for no good reason -- hell, he even smells bad. In another life, he was known as Mr. Punch. This time around, he'll get a baby from Andy Warhol and do battle with the metastatic Land Squid. None of which will improve his character, or his chances for personal happiness. Fortunately, he can still kick that dog.

The Undermain Theatre presents the New York premiere of Jeffrey M. Jones's A Man's Best Friend, a dark comedy of bad manners that delves headfirst into the slop trough of modern American life. This fast-paced play features Sluggo -- a bad-smelling clown with anger-management issues; his dog, Woof; his wife, Jane; his good (actually, bad) angel; a lovelorn cop with a mighty can o' whupass; and the dreaded metastatic land squid.
