(© Joseph Marzullo/WENN) | The New York Film Critics Online have named Martin McDonagh as Best Debut as Director for his film In Bruges, according to Variety.
The group gave five awards, including Best Picture to Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire; Milk won the Best Actor award for Sean Penn and Best Ensemble; and actress Sally Hawkins was named Best Actress and Best Breakout Performance for her work in Mike Leigh's Happy-Go-Lucky.
Wall-E was named Best Animated Feature, while actors Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight) and Penelope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona) were named Best Supporting Actor and Actress, respectively.
McDonagh's The Cripple of Inishmaan is currently being presented by the Atlantic Theatre Company. His other plays include The Lieutenant of Inishmore, The Pillowman, The Lonesome West, and A Skull in Connemara. He won the Academy Award for the short film Six Shooter.
