Barbour Song

Broadway's James Barbour discusses his early inspiration, starring in A Tale of Two Cities, auditioning for Stephen Sondheim, and imitating Mandy Patinkin.

By: Valerie Smaldone and Joe Tavano · Dec 18, 2008

James Barbour has been one of Broadway's most popular leading men for nearly 15 years, thrilling audiences with his glorious voice in such shows as Carousel, Beauty and the Beast, and Jane Eyre. The star -- who will be performing a special Holiday Concert at Sardi's, December 20-January 4 -- sat down with Valerie Smaldone at a recent Sunday Salon event to discuss his early inspirations, his experience starring in the recent musical Tale of Two Cities, his facility at imitating stars as diverse as Mandy Patinkin and Jimmy Stewart, and auditioning for Stephen Sondheim for the Broadway production of Assassins.
