Randy Harrison and Marc Vietor will star in Garland Wright's adaptation of Christopher Marlowe's Edward the Second at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater December 11-January 13, with an Opening Night, hosted by Mark Rylance, scheduled for December 15.
Continuing the Red Bull Theater's exploration of the seldom-seen classics of Shakespeare and his contemporaries, Edward the Second is a timely examination of the struggle for personal human rights amidst a powerful public need for political expediency. It examines the question of whether an individual in public service has the right to a personal life.
The cast will also include Arthur Bartow, Rob Breckenridge, Wesley Broulik, Joseph Costa, William DeMerritt, Michael Gotch, Davis Hall, Lucas Hall, James Knight, Claire Lautier, Terence MacSweeny, Raum-Aron, Derrick LeMont Sanders, Raphael Nash Thompson, and Patrick Vaill.
The design team will include John Arnone (set), Clint Ramos (costumes), Peter West (lighting), and Rick Sordelet (fight direction).
Harrison, who will play Spencer, appeared on Broadway in Wicked. His other stage credits include Amadeus, Equus, and Mrs. Warren's Profession. He is best known for his role as Justin Taylor on Queer as Folk. Vietor, who will play the title role, previously performed in Red Bull's The Revenger's Tragedy. His other stage credits include The Merchant of Venice and The Jew of Malta with F. Murray Abraham.
