Blanchett, Hoffman, Langella, et al. Receive Spirit Award Nominations

The nominees for the annual Film Independent Spirit Awards were announced this morning. The ceremony will be held on Saturday, February 23 and broadcast on AMC and IFC.

Theater veterans who received acting nominations include Cate Blanchett (I'm Not There), Don Cheadle (Talk to Me), Chiewetel Eijofor (Talk to Me), Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Savages), Frank Langella (Starting Out in the Evening), Jennifer Jason Leigh (Margot at the Wedding), Parker Posey (Broken English), Marisa Tomei (Before the Devil Knows You're Dead), and Steve Zahn (Rescue Dawn).

The entire ensemble of I'm Not There, along with director Todd Haynes, received the Spirit's inaugural Robert Altman Award. In addition, playwright Kelly Masterson received a nomination for the screenplay of Before the Devil Knows You're Dead.
