(© Michael Portantiere) | Broadway star Jeffrey Carlson will join the cast of the ABC daytime drama All My Children in the role of Zarf, a rock star who is battling with his desire to become a transgendered female.
He will first appear on November 30, and his initial storyline will be with Broadway veteran and Daytime Emmy Award winner Eden Riegel, who plays lesbian Bianca Montgomery.
Carlson has appeared three times on Broadway, in Taboo, for which he received a Drama Desk Award nomination for his portrayal of Marilyn, The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? and Tartuffe. His Off-Broadway and regional credits include Bach at Leipzig, Manuscript, Lorenzaccio, and Last Easter.
Since its debut in 1970, All My Children has tackled numerous issues of social significance, including abortion, domestic abuse, and homosexuality. This is the first time the show -- or any daytime drama -- is tackling the coming-out of a transgendered character.
