Tony Award winner Bill Irwin will present a dramatic reading of a selection of Alexis de Tocqueville's Letters from America at a gala benefit for New York University's Maison Française at 6:30pm on Monday, November 9 at the Hotel Carlyle.

The gala honors Yves-André Istel, of Rothschild, Inc., for his contributions to Franco-American relations and for the significant roles he has played at NYU, as chairman of the Remarque Institute and the Center for French Civilization and Culture and as an Overseer of the Faculty of Arts and Science. He is also a co-chair of the European Institute's board of directors, and a director of several major companies and non-profit organizations.

Irwin won the Tony for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. He is currently starring in the Roundabout Theatre Company's production of Bye Bye Birdie and his other Broadway credits include Waiting for Godot, The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?, and Fool Moon.
