Andre De Shields’ Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory to Play NYC February 4-14

Andre De Shields will bring his solo show Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory: From Douglass to Deliverance to New York City for twelve performances, to be presented Off-Broadway by The Working Theatre at Abingdon Theater, February 4-14. Alfred Preisser will direct.

Conceived, researched and written by De Shields, the piece focuses on the life and achievements of Frederick Douglass. The writer/performer previously workshopped the play at The Yard in Chilmark on Martha’s Vineyard, in September.

As previously announced, The Working Theatre’s 25th annual season will also include a reprise of playwright/performer Lisa Ramirez’s solo play Exit Cuckoo, directed by Colman Domingo in January; a reading of Honor Molly’s Maiden Voyages in February; a reimagining of Chekov’s Three Sisters, directed by Maureen Towey and Connie Grappo in March; and Ed Cardona Jr.’s play American Journalero in March. The company also previously announced that Grappo, its artistic director of the past three years, has departed to pursue other projects, while Mark Plesent, the company’s Producing Director since 1995, will take on the role of Artistic Director on an interim basis as the organization begins its search for a permanent replacement.
