(© Joseph Marzullo/WENN) | Lincoln Center has announced the lineup for the 2009 American Songbook series, which will run January 14-February 21 at The Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center, followed by a March 6 concert with Tony Award winner Stew and Heidi Rodewald at Alice Tully Hall.
The series begins with a salute to Cole Porter led by musical director Rob Fisher and starring Tony Award winners Victoria Clark and David Hyde Pierce. Other theatrical-oriented highlights include concerts by fellow Tony winners Paulo Szot (January 24), Alan Cumming (February 7), Sutton Foster (February 19), and composer Alan Menken (February 20), plus an evening of the music of Richard Rodgers performed by husband-and-wife John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molaskey (February 21).
The series also includes a country singer Patty Loveless (January 15), a tribute to The Grateful Dead (January 16), Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips' 13 Most Beautiful...Songs for Andy Warhol's Screen Tests (January 17), jazz great Kurt Elling (January 21), folk-blues singer Amos Lee (January 22), country singer-songwriter Rodney Crowell with guest star Rosanne Cash (January 23), Soul Deep, with special guests including Phylicia Rashad, Adriane Lenox, and Chuck Cooper (February 4), The Del McCoury Band (February 5), Lizz Wright (February 6), and Nico Muhly (February 18).
