The complete cast and creative team have been announced for the Arena Stage's world premiere of 33 Variations, to run August 24-September 30, with an official opening set for August 30. Written and directed by Moises Kaufman, the piece concerns a contemporary musicologist's artistic exploration of Beethoven's inexplicable obsession with a simple waltz by Anton Diabelli.

The cast will feature Don Amendolia (Anton Diabelli), Greg Keller (Mike Clark), Susan Kellerman (Gertie Ladenburger), Graeme Malcolm (Ludwig Van Beethoven), Laura Odeh (Clara Brandt), Mary Beth Peil (Katherine Brandt), Erik Steele (Anton Schindler), and Diane Walsh (Pianist). The creative team includes Derek McLane (sets), Janice Pytel (costumes), David Lander (lighting), Andre Pluess (sound), Jeffrey Sugg (projections), and Peter Anastos (choreography).

As previously reported, the Arena Stage season will also include Lisa Kron's Well (September 14-October 14), which focuses on a mother and daughter and their hilarious attempts to tell the truth; Tim Acito's musical The Women of Brewster Place (October 19-December 9), based on Gloria Naylor's acclaimed novel about a group of African-American women who persevere in the face of life's disappointments; Christmas Carol 1941 (November 16-December 30), a new musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic story; Ella (December 28-February 24), a musical about the life, times and music of singer Ella Fitzgerald; Arthur Miller's dramas A View from the Bridge and Death of a Salesman, presented in repertory (March 14-May 18); and Charles Ludlam's gothic comedy The Mystery of Irma Vep (May 2-June 8), co-starring Brad Oscar and J. Fred Shiffman.
