The planned Broadway musical Spider-Man -- to be directed by Julie Taymor with music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge of U2 -- will be holding open auditions at The Knitting Factory, 74 Leonard Street in NYC, July 28, from 10 am to 5 pm.
The casting notice says that auditions are being held for "Peter Parker: male, 16-20's, great Rock voice, can be nerdy with understated sex appeal, good sense of humor; Mary Jane: female, 16-20's, beautiful girl next door, strong pop/rock singing voice; Principal Woman: female, 25-35 years old, Amazing Rock vocals, think Sinead O'Connor with a Middle Eastern /Bulgarian/Greek/ twist. Foreign, world music types are great, foreign accents are great! All ethnicities."
Interested parties should prepare 16 bars of a pop/rock song that shows range. Auditionees should bring sheet music, and if they have one, a photo/resume stapled together.

RE: Spider-Man Musical to Hold Open Auditions July 28
There was some early speculation that John Gallagher, Jr. might be considered for the role of Peter Parker. There is no question that his voice has the range, strength, and quality required for the role. He has the charisma to bring to Spiderman many of the fans of Spring Awakening. His portrayal of Moritz demonstrated that he can have sex appeal even playing the role of a misfit. His role in Farragut North quenched any doubts that he is a serious actor and not just a cute rock star. There could be nobody better for the role than John Gallagher, Jr., who is a better than even bet to lead Spiderman to success.
