On Monday, the press was invited to meet the cast of the upcoming Broadway musical Billy Elliot, which begins previews at the Imperial Theatre on October 1. Here are British actress Haydn Gwynne and Broadway veteran Gregory Jbara with the show's rotating Billys, David Alvarez, Kiri Kulish, and Trent Kowalik.

Santino Fontana, who recently appeared in the revival of Sunday in the Park With George, and Tony Award winner Carole Shelley also co-star in the musical.

On Sunday night, the Broadway musical A Catered Affair held its closing night party at Bond 45. Star and author Harvey Fierstein and leading lady Faith Prince were all smiles despite the occasion.

Tony winner B.D. Wong, who opens the season at Princeton's McCarter Theatre in the multi-character solo musical Herringbone, was also on hand.

Former Academy Award nominee Karen Black made a rare appearance in Manhattan on Saturday night, performing her new cabaret show at the lovely Metropolitan Room.

On Thursday night, Mario Lopez, currently playing Zach in the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line, had his caricature added to the walls of Tony's Di Napoli. Starting this fall, Lopez will host the syndicated television show Extra.

The cast of Avenue Q, which celebrates its fifth anniversary on Broadway on July 31, got a special backstage visit last week from actor James Van Der Beek.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Drama Desk held a special gathering at Tony's Di Napoli to let this year's winners pick up their coveted trophies. Forbidden Broadway creator (and 2008 winner) Gerard Alessandrini was one of the celebrities who came by.
