Preliminary casting has been announced for select shows in the 2008 New York International Fringe Festival. The 12th annual festival will be hosted by 20 downtown performance venues, August 8-24.

Obie Award winner Lisa Banes and Tony Award nominee Xanthe Elbrick will star in The Alice Complex, by Peter Barr-Nickowitz. The play is about a professor of Women's Studies who is confronted by one of her students carrying a white box which may or may not contain the severed penis of a rapist.

Mark Setlock, Jan Leslie Harding, Stephanie Janssen, and Natalie Gold will star in the world premiere of The Umbrella Plays, by Janssen, to be directed by Daniel Talbott. This collection of seven short plays interweaves a handful of diverse, urban lives around the common object of an umbrella.

Michael Laurence writes and performs Krapp, 39, directed by George Demas. The piece is a multi-media reflection on the author's life and its kinship with Samuel Beckett's title character in Krapp's Last Tape.

Aaron Latham's play Revolution on the Roof will star Will Manning, Allison Goldberg, Meg Cavanaugh, Ryan Stone, Jamie Neumann, Stephen Conrad Moore, Alison Marie Bryant, Leicester Landon, Jon McCormick, and Lareysa Smith. The piece is about a sit-in, led by singer Joan Baez, at a University campus in 1969. Sergio Alvarado will direct this musical that includes some of Baez's songs, along with original tunes by Manning and Dan Shay.

Jolly Abraham, Rich Affannato, Anthony Cochrane, Robert Hooghkirk, Todd Lawson, Nick Sullivan, and Stuart Zagnit will star in the new comedy The Grecian Formula, by Carter Anne McGowan, and directed by Mary Jo Lodge. The work is a recreation of the backstage comedy behind the first Greek drama, complete with wily slaves, chorul odes, and heartfelt romances.

Julie Jesneck and Adam Richman star in Walls, by Aron Ezra, directed by Markus Potter. The play is about a couple whose lives become more interesting once a mysterious wall separates their house, their bed, and even their fish in two.

Gayton Scott, Caroline Tamas, Tim Davis, Polly Lee, and Julian Stetkevych will appear in the october crisis (to laura), by Alejandro Morales, directed by Scott Ebersold. The piece, set during the Cuban Missile Crisis, is about a singer who reconnects with her estranged son.
