Performance artist Holly Hughes will join Split Britches founders Deb Margolin, Peggy Shaw, and Lois Weaver for a lively live art discussion at La MaMa E.T.C. as part of the theater's "Coffeehouse Chronicles" series, Saturday, June 21 at 3pm.
The discussion will be in conjunction with Split Britches' newest show, Miss America, written and performed by Shaw and Weaver. The Coffeehouse Chronicles presents personal accounts of the history and development of the Experimental, International & Off-Off Broadway Theatre scene in NYC and at La MaMa from early 70s by the individuals who created them.
Hughes' solo shows include Preaching to the Perverted, Clit Notes, and World Without End. Her play, Dress Suits to Hire, was written for Shaw and Weaver to perform.
Margolin, Shaw, and Weaver co-created the shows Split Britches, Beauty and the Beast, Upwardly Mobile Home, Little Women, and Lesbians Who Kill. Shaw and Weaver continue to perform as Split Britches, with shows including Lust and Comfort and Salad of the Bad Café.
Margolin received a 1999-2000 Obie Award for Sustained Excellence of Performance, and her additional plays include Time Is the Mercy of Eternity, Three Seconds in the Key, O Yes I Will, Index to Idioms, and Critical Mass. Shaw's solo work includes You're Just Like My Father, Menopausal Gentlemen and To My Chagrin. Weaver's solo work includes Faith and Dancing.
Admission to the event is free, although donations are accepted.
