The New Victory Theater has announced its 2010-2011 season, which will open with the world premiere of Puss in Boots (October 1-10), a collaboration between the Tectonic Theater Project and Gotham Chamber Opera. Moises Kaufman will direct and Neal Goren will conduct the production, which transforms a favorite fairy tale into a humorous rags-to-riches operatic adventure, featuring puppets by Blind Summit.

Next up will be ZooZoo, by Imago Theatre (October 15-24), a series of whimsical vignettes, followed by Catalyst Theatre’s Nevermore: The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe (October 29-November 7), which explores the events that shaped Poe’s career. Lyngo Theatre Company will present Egg and Spoon (November 2 – 21), described as “a soft and squishy interactive adventure.” The Handsome Little Devils will stage Squirm Burpee Circus: A Vaudevillian Melodrama (November 13-28), a neo-vaudevillian pastiche of first-class circus skills, dance and comedy.

Over the holidays will be Momentum (December 4-January 2), by the multicultural Israeli troupe Mayumana. The new year will start off with Nearly Lear (January 7-16), starring Susanna Hamnett in a one-woman take on Shakespeare’s King Lear, told from the point of view of the Fool.
Jamie Adkins will star in Circus INcognitus (February 11-27), in which the performer teeters on towering ladders, somersaults on slack wire and times perfect pratfalls. The U.S, premier of David Almond’s Skellig (March 4-13) will follow, about a 10-year-old who discovers a grouchy yet strangely mystical vagabond in his family’s garage.

Theatre-Rites and choreographer Arthur Pita will present Mischief (March 18-27), directed by Sue Buckmaster, and featuring a kaleidoscopic playland designed by visual artist Sophia Clist. Cirque Mechanics will stage Boom Town (April 8-24), a cirque nouveau extravaganza set in the Old West. Shona Reppe Puppets will perform Potato Needs a Bath (April 8-24), recommended for ages 2 through 5.

Slingsby Theatre Company will present the U.S. premiere of The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy (April 29-May 8), in which a Dickensian storyteller tells the tale of the titular character’s intergalactic journey. The season will conclude with the return of Mabou Mines’ Peter and Wendy (May 6-22), adapted from J.M. Barrie’s celebrated story and with Karen Kandel recreating her OBIE Award-winning role of The Narrator.
