Hugh Jackman and Alicia Silverstone will join Jennifer Garner in the new movie Butter, according to a report in Variety. Jim Field Smith will direct the movie, which features a screenplay by Jason Micallef and is being produced by Garner.

Butter focuses on an ambitious Midwestern woman (Garner) trying to win a local butter-carving contest. Jackman will play an old flame of Garner’s character, while Silverstone will play the adoptive mother of a teen girl who becomes a major contender in the competition. The cast will also feature Yara Shahidi as the adopted girl and Ashley Greene as the step-daughter of Garner’s character.

Jackman won the Tony for his portrayal of the late singer Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz. Among his other stage credits are A Steady Rain on Broadway earlier this season and the London revival of Oklahoma! His film credits include X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Australia, The Prestige, and The Fountain.

Silverstone, who made her Broadway debut in The Graduate, was most recently seen on stage in the Broadway production of Donald Margulies’ Time Stands Still. The actress received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in the television series Miss Match.

Butter is set to begin production later this month.
