Tony Award winner Trazana Beverley will star in the New York premiere of Jovanka Bach's Marko the Prince. Marcy Arlin will direct the production at Barrow Group Theater, June 20-July 13, with an opening set for June 26.

In the play, a first-generation American returns to Sabor to bury his mother in the village of her birth, but his plans are derailed when he discovers smoldering religious and ethnic resentments surrounding the ownership of Sabor's tiny village cemetery. The play is part of The Balkan Trilogy, three plays by Bach about Yugoslavians and Serbian-Americans during the rise and fall of Yugoslavia under Tito and the Communists.

The cast will also include Jelena Stupljanin, Tony Naumovski, Lanna Joffrey, Aaron Lohr, Christo Christov, Josh Clayton, Matthew Schmidt, Herman Petras, and Paul Barry. The design team will include Art Rotch (set), Lucas Krech (lighting), Carol Brys (costumes), and Elizabeth Rhodes (sound).

Beverley received the Tony for her work in For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf. She has worked extensively Off-Broadway and in regional theater as an actress and director, including recent productions of Medea, Salome, Yellowman, and String of Pearls.

Bach's plays include Chekhov and Maria, O'Neill's Ghosts, Sylvie, A Matter of the Heart, and Mercy Warren's Tea.
