New York Philharmonic’s SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert to Be Broadcast on PBS November 24

The New York Philharmonic’s SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert, which was held March 15-16 at Avery Fisher Hall, will be broadcast on PBS’ Great Performances on November 24.

David Hyde Pierce hosted the performances. Paul Gemignani conducted, with direction by Lonny Price and choreography by Josh Rhodes.

These concerts featured some of the composer-lyricist’s most enduring orchestral music and songs in addition to rarely-heard material, including a suite from music he wrote for the film Reds, which had previously never before been performed live.In addition to the PBS telecast, the concert will be released on DVD in November by Image Entertainment.

The line-up of performers included Laura Benanti, Matt Cavenaugh, Michael Cerveris, Victoria Clark, Jenn Colella, Jason Danieley, Joanna Gleason, Nathan Gunn, George Hearn, Patti LuPone, Marin Mazzie, Audra McDonald, John McMartin, Donna Murphy, Laura Osnes, Mandy Patinkin, Bernadette Peters, Bobby Steggert, Elaine Stritch, Jim Walton, and Chip Zien, along with American Ballet Theatre dancers Blaine Hoven and Maria Riccetto.
