Hugh Jackman, David Oyelowo Set for Lee Daniels’ Selma Film

Hugh Jackman and David Oyelowo will star in Lee Daniels’ Selma, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie focuses on the historic marches staged by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma, AL in 1965. Oyelowo will play King and Jackman will play a racist sheriff.

Jackman won the Tony for his portrayal of the late singer Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz. Among his other stage credits are A Steady Rain on Broadway earlier this season and the London revival of Oklahoma! His film credits include X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Australia, The Prestige, and The Fountain.

In New York, Oyelowo starred in Classic Stage Company’s production of Prometheus Bound. In the U.K., he starred as Henry VI for the Royal Shakespeare Company. The actor’s film and television credits include Kenneth Branagh’s As You Like It and the ABC film version of Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun, as well as Red Tails, The Last King of Scotland, and The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.
