Nilo Cruz, Kirsten Childs, and More Set for MTC’s 7@7 Reading Series

Manhattan Theatre Club has announced the lineup for its 7@7 reading series, dedicated to the support and development of new works, which will be presented at New York City Center – Stage I on consecutive Mondays, March 3-April 11.

The series will begin with Stella Feehily’s Dreams of Violence (March 30), to be directed by Kate Whoriskey, a portrait of one woman shouldering familial responsibility while fighting corporate irresponsibility. Next up will be Nicholas Kazan’s Night for Day (April 6), directed by Sarah Benson, and about a Hollywood star who returns home armed with shocking secrets.

Zayd Dohrn’s Magic Forest Farm (April 13), to be directed by Steven Cosson, is about a 17-year-old who hasn’t felt at home since her family left the commune where she grew up. Eliza Clark’s Recall (April 20), directed by Kip Fagan, centers on Lucy, who makes people uncomfortable. Close Up Space (April 27), written by Molly Smith Metzler and directed by Evan Cabnet, is about an editor with a sharp eye for details in some respects, but not in others.

Pulitzer Prize-winner Nilo Cruz writes and directs The Color of Desire (May 4), set in 1960 Havana, where a dashing American businessman hires a young Cuban actress to play a role unlike any she’s ever had: the woman he loved and lost. The series will conclude with Kirsten Childs’ new musical Funked Up Fairytales (May 11), directed by John Rando, and about a trio of teenage fairies with attitude.
