Eisa Davis and Linda Powell will star in Davis’ autobiographical play, Angela’s Mixtape, to be presented Off-Broadway at the Ohio Theater, April 6-May 2, with an opening on April 9. Liesl Tommy will direct.

Presented by New Georges and the Hip-Hop Theater Festival, the piece tells Davis’ story of a radical upbringing on the dividing line between Oakland and Berkeley, California–in a family that includes her aunt, professor and activist Angela Davis (played by Powell).

The cast will also include Kim Brockington, Denise Burse, and Ayesha Ngaujah. The creative team will include Clint Ramos (set), Jessica Jahn (costumes), Sarah Sidman (lighting), and Jane Shaw (sound).

Davis was recently seen on Broadway in Passing Strange, and other theater credits include the Broadway production of The Violet Hour and the Off-Broadway productions of Belize and June and Jean in Concert. She is also the author of Bulrusher, Warriors Don’t Cry, Hip Hop Anansi, Paper Armor, Six Minutes and Umkovu.

Powell’s credits include the Broadway revival of On Golden Pond, and additional credits include Wilder, Wilder, Wilder, The Overwhelming, Ominium Gatherum, Jar the Floor, and Jitney.
