Three Musicals Chosen for Chicago ASCAP Workshop Presentation

By: Matthew Murray · Mar 17, 2005  · New York

The ASCAP Foundation has announced the three new musicals that have been chosen for presentation in the second annual ASCAP Foundation/Disney Theatrical Productions Musical Theatre Workshop in Chicago.

The winning shows, which were selected from nearly 100 applicants, are as follows: The New Kid, by Jordan Mann and Jeff Thomson, about a New York City high school that is forever changed by a new student who makes things better by using any means necessary; Ebenezer: Return of the Scrooge, by Keith Huff and Adryan Russ, a sequel to A Christmas Carol; and Julian Po, by Andrew Barrett and Ira Antelis, a cautionary tale of a man who changes the sleepy lives of the people in a middle-American town.

The workshop will be directed by composer/lyricist Craig Carnelia and the three shows' creators will have the opportunity to make presentations from their works for professional critique by prominent theater producers, directors, and composers. Free of charge and open to the public, the workshop will take place on April 6, 8, 20, 21, and 22 at 7:30pm at the Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington Street). Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis.

For additional information, phone Michael Kerker at ASCAP at 323-883-1000 or 212-621-6234, or the Chicago Department of Culture Affairs at 312-744-6630.
