(© Joseph Marzullo/Retna) | Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman will be on hand to honor filmmaker and theater director Baz Luhrmann at a gala the Waldorf-Astoria on Friday, January 23. The event is part of G'Day USA- Australia Week 2009, a series of events to be held in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
Luhrmann received Tony and Drama Desk nominations for his direction of the 2003 Broadway production of La Bohème. His numerous film credits include Romeo & Juliet, Moulin Rouge, and Australia, which stars Jackman and Nicole Kidman.
Jackman won the Tony for his portrayal of the late singer Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz and starred in the London revival of Oklahoma!. His other film credits include the X-Men series, The Prestige, and The Fountain. He will host the Academy Awards on Sunday, February 22.
