 | | Drew Sarich | Drew Sarich has officially been given the role of Armand in the Broadway-bound production of Lestat, which is playing through January 29 at the Curran Theater in San Francisco and will begin previews at the Palace Theatre in New York on March 11.
The actor had originally been cast as understudy to Jack Noseworthy; he began playing Armand last month when Noseworthy left the production, reportedly because the show's creative time had decided to take the character in a different direction. Sarich, who will be making his Broadway debut in Lestat, has starred in many European productions of American musicals, including The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Who's Tommy, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
Lestat is inspired by Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. The production is directed by Robert Jess Roth (Beauty and the Beast), with musical staging by Matt West. Heading the cast are Hugh Panaro in the title role, Carolee Carmello as Gabrielle, Jim Stanek as Louis, Roderick Hill as Nicolas, Michael Genet as Marius, and Allison Fischer as Claudia. The show features the first theatrical score by the legendary songwriting team of Elton John and Bernie Taupin, and a book by Linda Woolverton.
