WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The Al-Rowwad theater company, based at the Aida Refugee Camp outside Bethlehem, is coming to the U.S. The NYC leg of their tour - including nights at the Barrow Street Theater and the Martin E. Segal Theater at the CUNY Graduate Center -- is scheduled for June 18 through June 22 and is made possible through the combined efforts of theater artists, grassroots activists and community supporters. Using the theatrical and visual arts to help children whose lives are shattered by war and occupation, Al-Rowwad's Founder and Director Dr. AbdelFatteh Abu-srour has created a truly concrete example of "theaters working against war" happening on the very frontlines of violence. Dr. Abu-Srour has coined the term "beautiful resistance" to describe the Center's focus and its curriculum based on creative non-violence. Trained in classical folkloric dance, the ensemble of five girls and six boys - Husam Alazza, Ribal Kordi, Rowa Abu-srour, Salam Alazza, Hamada Alkurdi, Woud Darkhawaja, Ikhlas Abu-srour, Ahmad Alajarma, Jehad Alajarma, Hanin Alaarj -- creates a dramatic pageant of the modern history of Palestine - from 1948 to the Oslo Peace Accords. We Are the Children of the Camps is performed in Arabic with projected English subtitles. Schedule Date: Saturday, June 18 at 6:00 pm Where: Passaic Co.
