WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The brainchild of choreographer Beth Gill and composer Chris Peck, The Brooklyn Adult Recorder Choir is an ad hoc group of performers from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds including untrained performers and self-described "non-artists." Inspired by their shared nostalgia for grammar school music education, 5' In The Closet Again Again unleashes up to 60 performers armed with brown plastic recorders into The Chocolate Factory's hidden corners, combining refined pedestrian movements, spatial configurations, and musical actions to conjure a unique and memorable landscape of sights and sounds.

First conceived in 2004, previous incarnations of the Recorder Choir have appeared at the Improvised and Otherwise and Movement Research Festivals. Michigan-born, Brooklyn-based composer Chris Peck most recently collaborated with video artist Charles Atlas on The Intensity Police Are Working My Last Gay Nerve, a live audiovisual work for the Performa05 performance biennial and the 2006 New York Video Festival at Lincoln Center. Brooklyn-based choreographer Beth Gill was recently presented at The Kitchen in an evening curated by Yasuko Yokoshi.
