WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Australian cabaret artist Kim Smith returns to Café Sabarsky celebrating the decadence and decay of Europe in the 1930's. Singing in German, French, and English, he charts a dark and whimsical path through the arrivals and departures of a neo-Weimar, musical misfit in his latest jaunt through the ruins of love and illusion realized. Jerry Steichen accompanies on piano, Christian Coulson directs.
Hailed as "A new breed of cabaret star!" (MCV Magazine, Melbourne) in his native Australia, Kim Smith returns to Café Sabarsky at the Neue Galerie. The performance commences at 9PM, preceded by a prix-fixe dinner at 7PM. Combined cost for Cabaret at Café Sabarsky is $110.00 (dinner $65.00, performance $45.00; purchased together).
Cabaret at Café Sabarsky in the Neue Galerie continues its unique series devoted primarily to German and Austrian music of the 1890s through the 1930s, some of the most fertile and volatile music created in the modern era. The intimate 60-seat room is exquisitely appointed with period objects, including lighting fixtures by Josef Hoffmann and furniture by Adolf Loos, and features a Yamaha S4 grand piano.
