American Opera Projects presents a concert performance and first look at the new opera Judgment of Midas by renowned composer Kamran Ince. Based on a myth in Ovid's Metamorphoses, Judgment of Midas brings to life the ultimate singing battle of the gods! Witnessed by the hapless King Midas on Mount Tmolus, near Sardis, Turkey, the old forest god Pan, maker of raw music for the people, boldly challenges the sun god Apollo's spiritual or "high" compositions to determine which music is best.
Sung by an international cast made up of familiar faces from the Metropolitan Opera and New York City Opera, this new opera by Turkish-American composer Kamran Ince features popular ethnic and folk musical styles side by side with serious music of epic proportions, effecting a vivid blaze of musical contrast. Followed by a panel discussion with the artists.
