WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The Opera Company of Brooklyn is poised for another musical conquest, tackling George Frederick Handel's challenging opera Giulio Cesare. Continuing its mission of "Building new bridges to opera," Maestro Jay Meetze conducts two performances, one in the increasingly popular B.Y.O.B. (Bring your own Beverage) format, and the other as part of the new Sunday Staged series of operas. The B.Y.O.B. series brings concert versions of opera to new and varied audiences in the comfort of private residences throughout the New York area. The recently inaugurated Sunday Staged series allows young singers to develop their roles with greater depth through the liberation of movement and imaginative staging. B.Y.O.B. Performance Saturday, November 18 at 7:30 PM The performance is held on West 3rd Street in Greenwich Village. The cast features Elena McEntire, mezzo-soprano, in the title role of Julius Caesar, soprano Sasha Leinster as the ill fated queen Cleopatra, mezzo-soprano Nicole Cherniack Hyde as Sesto, counter-tenor Robert Fertitta as Tolomeo, and Dennis Blackwell as Achilla. Fran Bjorneby Kraemer as Cornelia and Sarah Nelson Craft as Curio are heard in both the B.Y.O.B. and the Sunday Staged performances. Judith Schaaf provides piano accompaniment. Sunday Staged Series Sunday, November 19 at 3:00 PM Saint Teresa's Church, 141 Henry Street, NY, NY Pianist William Hicks accompanies Aaron Silverman and Marguerite Willbanks as the royal couple, Esther Heidi Hickman as Sesto, Mark Thatcher as Tolomeo, and bass-baritone Diego Baner as Achilla. Fran Bjorneby Kraemer as Cornelia and Sarah Nelson Craft as Curio are heard in both the B.Y.O.B. and the Sunday Staged performances. Rod Gomez directs.
