Betty Buckley Set to Begin Grey Gardens at the Bay Street Theater

The Tony winner stars with Rachel York in the musical starting tonight.

Grey Gardens, based on the 1975 documentary by Albert and David Maysles, starts performances tonight at the Bay Street Theater. The musical focuses on Big Edie and Little Edie Bouvier Beale, the eccentric aunt and cousin, respectively, of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Set at the Bouvier mansion in East Hampton, the show unfolds the hilarious and heartbreaking journey of a mother and daughter who change from glamorous aristocrats to notorious recluses while surrounded by a crumbling manor rife with memories and cats.

Directed by Michael Wilson, the musical features music by Scott Frankel, book by Doug Wright, and lyrics by Michael Korie. The cast comprises Tony Award nominee Howard McGillin as George Gould Strong, Tony winner Betty Buckley as Big Edie, and Drama Desk Award-winner Rachel York as Little Edie Bouvier Beale, alongside Gracie Beardsley as Jacqueline, Matt Doyle as Joe and Jerry, James Harkness as Brooks Sr. and Brooks Jr., Sarah Hunt as Young Edie, Simon Jones as Major and Peale, and Dakota Quackenbush as Lee.

The creative team includes Hope Clarke (choreography), Andy Einhorn (music director), Jeff Cowie (set design), Ilona Somogyi (costume design), Robert Wierzel (lighting design), Nadia DiGiallonardo (props), Charles Swan (assistant director), Robert Bennett (production stage manager), and Thomas J. Gates (assistant stage manager).
