Following a six-month nationwide search, Classic Stage Company has announced that Brian Kulick will replace Barry Edelstein as the theater’s artistic director.

Kulick is a well established director who has worked in artistic and administrative capacities at the Shakespeare Society (where he has served as artistic director since 2001), the Mark Taper Forum, the Trinity Repertory Company, and the Joseph Papp Public Theater (he staged productions of Twelfth Night, The Winter’s Tale, and Timon of Athens for the New York Shakespeare Festival in Central Park). His tenure at CSC is scheduled to begin at the end of July.

According to Kulick, “Some of my first and most significant experiences of theater were right here at Classic Stage, both as an audience member and as a young director. So it is particularly meaningful for me to take this position, to continue Classic Stage’s ongoing conversation between the present and the past, and to be a part of a theater which is committed to engaging both the heart and the head.”
