Ithaca, New York’s Hangar Theatre opened its 2013 season on June 13 with a production of the Neil Simon comedy Last of the Red Hot Lovers, scheduled to run through June 29. Last of the Red Hot Lovers follows Barney Cashman (Gelber) who, in the midst of both the 1969 sexual revolution and a midlife crisis, borrows his mother’s empty apartment for a series of romantic rendezvous. The play originally opened on Broadway in December 1969 at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in a production starring James Coco, Linda Lavin, Doris Roberts, and Marcia Rodd, where it received four Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Play.
