WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Award winning playwright and director Ping Chong joins forces with marionette artist and composer Erik Sanko and set designer Jessica Grindstaff of Phantom Limb Company to present the world premiere of The Devil You Know in the Ellen Stewart Theatre.
The Devil You Know is a modern interpretation of the classic American short story The Devil and Daniel Webster about a poor farmer who sells his soul in exchange for financial prosperity. Using marionette and bunraku-style puppetry, revolving puppet stages, recorded dialogue and original music and multi-media projections, Ping Chong, Erik Sanko and Jessica Grindstaff will transform this Faustian tale into a hilarious and haunting mediation on lost souls, fool's gold and democracy's eternal promise for renewal. The Devil You Know is contemporary puppet theatre suitable for audiences ages 10 and up.

Presented at P.S. 122 as part of both Under the Radar and the venue's COIL Festival, the show is one of the most disturbing, yet riveting theatrical productions I've seen in years.
The solo performance stars Jonathan Capdevielle as David Brooks, one of the teenage accomplices to real-life serial killer Dean Corll, who in the mid-1970s raped, mutilated, and murdered more than 20 boys and young men in Houston, Texas. The play begins [...]
