WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS presents the long-awaited reunion of one of the most beloved musicals of the past decade, Once On This Island, starring the original Broadway cast, including LaChanze, Jerry Dixon, Andrea Frierson-Toney, Sheila Gibbs, Kecia Lewis, Afi McClendon, Gerry McIntyre, Milton Craig Nealy, Nikki Rene, Monique Cintron (who played 'Andrea' on the first National
Tour), Eric Riley, Ellis E. Williams and a special guest appearance by Lillias White. The original music director Steve Marzulo will conduct the original orchestrations by Michael Starobin.
The musical is based on the novel My Love, My Love by Rosa Guy, and is a jubilant and life-affirming Caribbean folktale told by a group of peasants as
they wait out a violent storm. They tell the story of a young peasant girl, Ti Moune, who leaves the safety of her home in search of the man she loves. The gods of the island orchestrate Ti Moune's journey to test the strength of her love. The show is written by the Tony Award-winning team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.
