WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Lorenzo Lamas performs in a show created by Michael Feinstein. Lamas is accompanied by musical director and arranger Mary Eckler, pianist Jeff Colella, and guitarist Don DeMarco, who is Vic Damone's longtime bandleader. The show is directed by Stuart Ross, who penned the Off-Broadway hit Forever Plaid and wrote and directed Diahann Carroll's show at Feinstein's last year.
Lorenzo Sings About Love features an eclectic repertoire of love songs and ballads, from standards of the Great American Songbook to contemporary hits and sultry Latin tunes. The song list includes such timeless classics as "Night and Day" by Cole Porter, "Embraceable You" by George and Ira Gershwin, and the Sammy Kahn hits "Please Be Kind" and "Teach Me Tonight," as well as contemporary selections including k.d. lang's "Don't Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes." Lamas performs lang's "Calling All Angels" as a tribute to American troops overseas, and he also sings two songs in Spanish -- Sid Wayne's "It's Impossible," featuring Spanish translation by Armando Manzanero, and Rafael Hernandez's "El Cumban Chero" -- as a tribute to his father, legendary movie star Fernando Lamas.
Jackets are suggested but not required.

Like many patrons last night, we walked into Feinstein's at the Regency to see Lorenzo Lamas on his opening night without the slightest idea of what to expect. To many people, he is a beloved TV star -- best known for his work on The Bold and the Beautiful and Falcon Crest -- but he was actually better known to us as the son of actors Fernando Lamas and Arlene Dahl.
The show is called Lorenzo Sings About Love, and the act, like its name, tends to get a little too self-conscious at times. There are awkward moments when he strains to connect his patter to his next love song. These are the times when a theme can do you more harm than good. Nonetheless, some of his patter was purely delightfu[...]
